Sorry it's been so long since I've posted; as usual, my life has been crazy/ Thanks to those of you who have posted; I'm so interested in seeing what others are reading!
Just finished:
Title: The Ghost Flower
Author: Michele Jaffe
Genre: Mystery
Synopsis: Eve Brightman is working in a coffee shop when two young people approach her, telling her she looks just like their cousin, and offering her lots of money if she'll pretend to be that cousin. She agrees, and it takes off from there. Maybe I should have seen the ending coming, but I didn't, so it was nothing like I'd imagined it would be.
My rating: ***
Title: Golden Nuggets of Pioneer Days: A History of Garfield County
Author: Daughters of the Utah Pioneers
Genre: History
Synopsis: The history of the settling of Garfield County including many pictures.
My rating: **** I loved reading this because I got it while I was in Panguitch, and, since my relatives helped settle this area, and my mom was born and raised in Panguitch, it was of special interest to me.
Just finished Carl Hiaasen's novel, Sick Puppy. A silly, darkly humorous romp through the Florida Everglades, with an eco-awareness undercurrent. Fun.
ReplyDeleteYou're such an inspiration to me, Karla, when you read books that have to do with the environment. I should be more concerned, I know, but whenever I think of the "great outdoors" I think of creepy crawly things that bite and sting, and I head indoors!
ReplyDeletehahaha! I didn't pick it for its eco-theme. I chose it because it's Carl Hiaasen, and I love his humor. Also there's usually some hilariously gruesome justice done in his stories which feeds some dark undercurrent in my psyche. There you have it. The truth is out. ;) Creepy crawlies that bite and sting die first, THEN I head indoors! Except honeybees. I let them stay.
DeleteI just finished "The Rose Garden" by Susanna Kearsley. It's about a woman who returns to Cornwall to visit her childhood friends and finds that she is able to slip between centuries and see and talk to the inhabitants from hundreds of years ago. She soon finds herself falling for a man who lived, and died, long before she herself was born. It sounds a bit like any old romantic novel, but the story is quite captivating--I read the book in 2 days! I'd give it a ***1/2 rating.
ReplyDeleteTHanks, for the recommendation, Louise. I'm writing the title down right now, so I can download it to my Nook. It seems it's either feast or famine; I have several books to read now, and sometimes I don't have a single one!
