Good, so far

I'm reading the newest book by Tana French, and it's good, so far. The first book I read by her was The Likeness, and I loved it so much that I've been eagerly waiting for this one to come out. It's nothing like that first book, but the way she writes just sucks me in. I'll post all the details of it when I finish. Are any of you reading anything good these days?

Great book!

Title: Tell the Wolves I'm Home
Author: Carol Rifka Brunt
Genre: Realistic Fiction
Synopsis: A young girl, who loves her uncle very much, discovers he has AIDS. This is a growing-up novel where she has to come to grips with adult issues, and her own feelings.
My rating: **** I loved this book so much. The writing is elegant, and the characters are three dimensional and it was easy for me to identify with their feelings. I highly recommend this book.

Title: The Mircale Life of Edgar Mint
Author: Brady Udall
Genre: Realistic Fiction
Synopsis: A young boy, whjo lives on the Indain reservation is run over by a mail truck and his head is crushed. Against all odds he survives and ends up in a hospital for several years. While there he meets interesting people who will affect his life forever as he moves on to experience many other incredible things and people.
My rating: **** I LOVED this book! It was suggested by my friend, Sharon, and I absolutely could not put it down. The author, I believe, is LDS, so there is an element of the LDS church introduced partway through the book, but it's definitely NOT about the LDS church. It's heartbreaking, tender, hard to read, yet uplifting as well. I'd highly recommend this book.

Title: The Ghost Flower
Author: Michele Jaffe
Genre: Mystery
Synopsis: Eve Brightman is working in a coffee shop when two young people approach her, telling her she looks just like their cousin, and offering her lots of money if she'll pretend to be that cousin. She agrees, and it takes off from there. Maybe I should have seen the ending coming, but  I didn't, so it was nothing like I'd imagined it would be.

Title: Golden Nuggets of Pioneer Days: A History of Garfield County
Author: Daughters of the Utah Pioneers
Genre: History
Synopsis: The history of the settling of Garfield County including many pictures.
My rating: **** I loved reading this because I got it while I was in Panguitch, and, since my relatives helped settle this area, and my mom was born and raised in Panguitch, it was of special interest to me.

Currently Reading

Title: Force of Nature
Author: C.J. Box
Genre: Suspense
Synopsis: The main character, Joe, is a forest ranger with a friend who is running from a rogue government agent with whom he used to be a colleague. Set in Northern Wyoming in a fictional town called Twelve Sleep. Joe tries to keep his family from being a target for the rogue agent while also trying to help his friend. A bit violent, but nothing most people couldn't handle.
My rating: *** 1/2
I like this author especially since the setting of all his books is the part of Wyoming where George grew up.

New author

Just discovered a new author that I REALLY like!

Title: The Truth-Teller's Lie
Author: Sophie Hannah
Genre: Detective mystery
Synopsis: A woman has been raped, but doesn't tell anyone.She is also having an affair with a married man. When he vanishes without explanation and the police don't look for him as diligently as she'd like,  she desperately tells the police he's the one who raped her, so they'll look harder.
My rating: **** Really a good book with lots of twists and turns. The ending is not what you'd expect. Her writing is similar to that of Tana French, whom I love!

I'm needing suggestions for interesting, wholesome books for my granddaughter, who is turning 16 next week. She's not a consistent reader, so her reading skills aren't wonderful, but I'd like something that will keep her attention. Not even sure if she likes fantasy, or realistic fiction, or what, but I'd guess she'd probably like something kind of light that has to do with teenage girls meeting teenage boys! Any ideas out there?

Title: The Rope
Author: Nevada Barr
Genre: Suspense/Mystery
Synopsis: I've read everything this author has written, so I ordered this book on my Nook without even thinking about it. Her main character is Anna Pigeon, and this book is actually the BEGINNING of the series even though it's coming out now. It sets the stage for all the other adventures of Anna Pigeon, and let's the reader know more about her past. It's very good, suspenseful, and I want to know what happens, dang it!

Beginning of a Book Club

I thought I'd try starting a Book Club as a blog rather than trying to get a group of people together once a month, since everyone is so busy. Most of us are online sometime during the day, so what better way to get suggestions of good books to read than to sit in the comfort of our own homes, and read about the books our friends are reading, right? Please let us know what you've read, and how you feel about those books. It's okay to let us know if you DIDN'T like something you've read, too! With that in mind, here are a couple of books I've read the past few days:

Title: The Language of Flowers
Author: Vanessa Diffenbaugh
Genre: Realistic Fiction
Synopsis: A baby girl is left on a doorstep and is consequently moved from foster home to foster home throughout her childhood. She finally is placed with a woman who wants to adopt her, but things don't quite turn out as planned.
My rating: **** I loved this book; I couldn't put it down

Title: Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children
Author: Ransom Riggs
Genre: It's hard to say, but probably a bit of realism combined with some fantasy, and a bit of weirdness!
Synopsis: The grandfather of a young boy tells him many strange stories of his childhood and the boy believes them totally until he grows up and realizes they couldn't possibly be true. After his grandfather dies he sets out to find how much is true and how much is not.
My rating: *** I liked this book and I'd recommend it, but it's not the very best book I've ever read
